Getting work experience before graduating

Hi everyone, sorry for the lack of updates. Since my brain has been compressed with so much academic stuff for the past few weeks, I would like to share how working during the holidays for the past two years has really given many benefits. Nowadays, in addition to good results, one of the most important things that employers look for is at least some work experience regardless of whether it is related to our field of expertise. In my humble opinion, it is quite important to work at least once before graduating from university.

After working, I understand better why this is so. Basically, with some work experience whatever it is, one can have a feel of what the working world is like. My first work experience really took me a few weeks to adjust, as I found the whole atmosphere different from university life. One of the first things learnt was how to work under superiors and that sometimes in work, it is really not up to you to say 'yes' or 'no'.

In addition, in real life work is actually kind of endless. It is not like an assignment, where it can be completed in one week. The work is ongoing, can be routine and get boring at times. Throughout the two work experiences, I managed to meet new people, make new friends and also meet people from different walks of life. It was a new experience learning how to relate to different people, and of course there were hitches at times due to differences. Nevertheless, I believe everyone has their own life principles, habits and beliefs  and the key to getting along is just to respect it even if we may disagree.

To sum it up, getting some work experience during the semester break not only kills boredom, but offers an experience that textbooks do not teach and money cannot buy. There is always so much to learn from different places, different people and the whole world outside the four walls.
